Use our Lombok Itinerary to help plan your vacation to Lombok, with suggested places to visit for people with different interests, things to do and timeframes to do them in. Use this as a guide only, or mix and match from different itineraries to make it fit for you.

Main Places of Interest For A Lombok Itinerary

The Gili Islands: Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air

Gili Trawangan Lombok

The Gili Islands are a group of 3 small islands located off the north-west coast of Lombok. They can be reached by speedboat in about 15 minutes from Lombok.

Gili Trawangan is the most popular and most developed of the three. Gili Trawangan has historically been known as a backpacking mecca, famous for partying and drugs. However, it has come a long way, and is now more family-friendly and has more accommodation away from the main bars.

Gili Meno is the middle of the islands, and possibly the least developed. There are a couple of accommodation options here. This island is more relaxing and quiet than Gili Trawangan, but with less to do.

Gili Air is the closest to Lombok mainland and has a laid-back feel. It still has a very present party scene, with full moon parties common throughout the high season.

The Gili Islands are great for beautiful beaches, swimming, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, paddle boarding and partying.

The Other Gili Islands: Gili Nanggu, Gili Sudak, Gili Tangkong, Gili Gede, Gili Asahan

Located off the south-west coast of Lombok, these are the Gili Islands most tourist’s don’t know about, and therefore often referred to as the “secret Islands”. Relatively undeveloped, with pristine beaches, clear waters and vibrant marine life. These islands are the perfect place to escape to paradise.

Only Gili Gede, Gili Asahan and Gili Nanggu have accommodation on the island. Others you can visit during the day.

The southwest Gili Islands are great for snorkelling, diving and relaxing. Keep in mind they are may not have extensive facilities, so it is best to bring what you need, including cash.

Sira Beach – North Lombok

Located in the north-west of Lombok, on the mainland near the Gili Islands. This area is home to accommodation, a world-class golf course and pristine beaches. A great area to stay and take day trips to the Gili Islands. Perfect for snorkelling, diving, golf and relaxing.

Tetebatu and Jeruk Manis

Located on the southern side of Mount Rinjani, this mountain town is surrounded by lush green rice fields. Jeruk Manis is a nearby waterfall. Tetebatu is the perfect base for walking and treks to take in the natural beauty of Lombok.

Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu

Located in central Lombok, just east of Mataram, are two beautiful waterfalls and walking tracks. Both are popular sights, walks and picnic areas.

Senggigi

Senggigi Lombok

Senggigi is a coastal town on the west coast of Lombok. This is probably the main tourist hub of Lombok, although it is still not overdeveloped or overrun by tourists. Here you can find nice beaches, a range of accommodation options, some local shops and places to eat.

Kuta

Kuta is located on the south coast of Lombok and is a popular destination for surfers. It has some accommodation options but not as many as Senggigi and is not as developed as Senggigi. It is great for beautiful beaches and surfing.

Mataram

The Capital of Lombok, Mataram is located in West Lombok. Although it is the main city, that doesn’t always mean it’s a top destination. In Mataram, you can expect mainly shops, a shopping mall, and restaurants. Worth a day trip if you have time, but we would not recommend staying here for your Lombok Holiday.

Mount Rinjani

Mount Rinjani is a Volcano in Lombok, popular for trekking. Some people trek to the crater rim whilst the more experienced trekkers hike to the summit.

Classic 5 Days Lombok Itinerary

Day 1

Start your Lombok Holiday in Senggigi. Explore the town and surrounding areas. Relax on the beach.

Day 2

Hire a driver and explore the island. Driving along the west coast and stopping along the way would be a nice way to spend a day. Maybe venture to the south coast and visit Kuta and surrounding beaches. Or ask your driver for his recommendations.

Day 3

Gili Trawangan Beach

Get a speedboat over to Gili Trawangan. Relax on the pristine beaches.

Day 4

Explore Gili Trawangan by foot or on a bike. Or spend your day in the water…swimming, snorkelling, paddle boarding…take your pick! Or maybe take an island hopper boat to explore the other Gili Islands; Gili Meno and Gili Air.

Day 5

Start your morning with one last swim in the clear waters, before either getting the speedboat to Bali or heading to Lombok International Airport.

How Long To Spend In Lombok?

    1. Hi Elaine, it’s doable but we left our luggage at a hotel in Bali and then took a backpack and were very happy we did. If it’s a carry-on size suitcase it will be easier to manage, as you will most likely be needing to carry them on and off boats docked on the beach ;) Have a great trip!

  1. Hello, how are the travel times in Lombok, for example from the Gili Islands to the airport how long would it take?

    Best regards

  2. Can you recommend a 7-days itenary in lombok without going for hiking in rinjani and if possible we want to drag our gilis tour at the end of our trip

    1. Hi Ezreen, You could easily spend 4 days on the Gili Islands if you want to spend most of your time there. What you want to do on the mainland depends on your interests. If you’re interested in beaches, you could hire a driver and explore the south western coast where the beaches are beautiful. If you want to do some activities you could do a day trip to the waterfalls or explore Mataram. If you just want to stay put, Senggigi is a tourist hub, and has lots of accommodation and an ok beach.
Have a great time in Lombok :)
