Tuban Travel Guide

Tuban is essentially South Kuta. It’s the place you stay when you want to be in Kuta, but you don’t want to stay in Kuta. A better option for families who want to stay central, but not right on the doorstep of party central.

Location

Located 10 mins north of Ngurah Rai International Airport, on Bali’s West Coast. It is essentially the south part of Kuta.

Overview

Tuban is a lot like Kuta (they are practically one and the same). However, as it is the south part of Kuta, it’s not right in the main tourist or party part of Kuta. The beach here is not stunning, but most people don’t stay here for the beaches but the activity. Tuban is a favourite with Bali family holidays for those wanting to stay in the action but have a bit of peace and quiet at their hotel. If you want tranquility and beauty this is not the place for you. If you want to walk down the road and go to Waterbom Park, Discovery mall, and lots of markets (along with fairly intense “sales people”) then you will love it.

The Ugly Truth

  • Although you are out of the main drag of Kuta, you are still very close, and there is not much to do in Tuban, besides go to Kuta.
  • Tuban Beach is not that nice.

The Silver Lining

  • If you want to stay in Kuta, but not be in the hustle and bustle, then Tuban is a great alternative.
  • Perfect location for Waterbom Park

Things To Do

Being centrally located to some of the popular tourist destinations in Bali means there are quite a few things to do here. There are nearby activities for the kids (e.g. Waterbom Park). And all the attractions of Kuta, Legian and Seminyak aren’t too far away either, including lots of shopping, eating and spa options. You could also day trip from here to other areas of Bali, but I would recommend combining your trip here with staying at another location.

  1. Hi Guys

being following you for a little time now, my husband, 17 year old daughter and I are in Bali from 11 March. South Kuta for 7 days and 4 days in Ubud cannot wait as this is our first time to Bali.( have done Thailand Singapore, Malaysia I wanted to know to best places to shop for the daughter and spa’s for myself to do between doing scenic drives and getting to know the people and the culture. And is there any places that are a must to see.

    Regards

    1. Hi Kelly, thanks so much :) Seminyak area is probably the best place to shop for boutique shops along Laksmana Street and Petitenget. Otherwise there are markets which sell more touristy things, or larger shopping centres with some international brands like beach walk shopping center.
As for spa’s, we love Murnis (Tamarind Spa) in Ubud. In Seminyak, Prana Spa is a great one.

As for must see’s, I would go to Tegenungan Waterfall whilst in Ubud, as it’s only half an hour away as opposed to hours, and you can swim in it too!
Definitely see some rice fields and do the Campuhan Ridge walk whilst in Ubud.
And if you have time, do a day trip for a seafood dinner in Jimbaran.
There are so many other things to see and do it’s hard to narrow the field!
Hope you have a great trip :)
