Handy Tips for Bali Family Holidays

Bali Family Holidays can be fun, safe and relatively inexpensive compared to other overseas holidays. Once you are in Bali, most things are fairly cheap, whether it be souvenirs, food, or activities and tours. When you are travelling with kids and not just paying for yourself, it helps to have a range of relatively well priced activities to keep everyone entertained. A lot of activities also have family admission prices.

Bali has some fabulous hotels which cater well for children, with great kids clubs set up or nannying services available upon request. It’s important to keep this in mind when choosing a hotel for Bali family holidays, as it might make the difference between a good holiday and an amazing holiday. Look for hotels that offer a range of activities the whole family can enjoy, if you want a relaxing family day without going to far.

For health and safety information please see our Bali Health page. Particular concerns relating to children, however, are things like vaccinations, watching what they eat and drink, protection from the weather, and supervision when swimming, around animals and walking around the streets of Bali. Bali also has many pharmacy’s and hospitals, and baby supplies are available albeit a tad expensive.

Bali has a wide range of place to eat. If your worried about the street food, there are great local restaurants and many international western restaurants to choose from. You will be sure to find something to satisfy both yourself and your kids!

Areas To Stay and Visit

For health and safety reasons, it is probably best to stick to the main tourist areas of Bali, where pharmacy’s and Hospitals are near. For this reason, Lombok may not be the best option for families, as it is less developed and has less activities. I would suggest the following areas to stay in Bali:

Seminyak

Seminyak

Seminyak is close to Kuta and Legian without being as busy. Seminyak is more sophisticated yet family freindly, with lots of shopping, eating and relaxing options, with many activities nearby, such as Waterbom Park and Tanah Lot.

Jimbaran Bay

Jimbaran Bay is more secluded and about 30 mins south of Kuta (depending on traffic). It has many large resorts sprawled amongst the local community. Many of these resorts have great kids clubs and resort activities that the entire family can enjoy. Things to do nearby include local markets and Uluwatu temple and the kecak dance.

Nusa Dua

Nusa Dua is essentially a resort estate, if you will. It is quite separate to local community’s however if you are looking for somewhere secluded and quiet with good infrastructure this is your place. Things to do nearby include shopping and the beach.

Sanur

Sanur is also home to many family friendly hotels and activities. With less hustle and bustle then Kuta, it is easier to relax. The main attractions here are the beaches and water sports.

Ubud

Ubud has plenty to offer for Bali Family Holidays. There are some family friendly resorts and villa’s, although they are not all necesarily in Ubud town centre. Ubud village has lots of shopping and cultural activities. You can also go on a bike riding tour starting with a visit to Mt Kintamani and stopping at rice fields along the way.
