Every time we come to Bali I fall more and more in love with the local dishes from the Warungs. Simple yet so tasty, visiting warungs in Bali is a great way to taste Indonesian food and experience local life. Even though Canggu is absolutely full of delicious food options, from cafes to restaurants and beach bars, trying the local food will definitely add something to your Canggu travels! Here are some of the best warungs in Canggu and some of the best local food in Bali to get you started…
Eating at Warungs In Canggu
Before we get into the best warungs in Canggu, here are some things to know about eating at warungs in Bali if you haven’t been before. Most warungs have glass counters showing a range of pre-cooked Indonesian dishes. You usually go to the counter, choose either white, brown or yellow rice (at some places you can also ask for a half portion of rice), and then select the dishes through the glass that you want to be added to your plate. Each dish is usually a certain price, meat dishes often cost more than vegetable dishes.
After you have selected everything you want, they bring the dish back to the counter and tell you the price. Usually, you will pay first, but at some warungs, you may pay after you eat. In our experience, at most warungs, you will pay between 30 000 IDR to 50 000 IDR per person. However, there are exceptions with some being a bit more and some a bit less.
Warung Bu Mi
Warung Bu Mi is an extremely popular warung in Canggu, and for good reason. The food is always tasty and it’s a great way to try some Indonesian dishes. Some of our favourite dishes are the tempe, corn fritters, the beans and omelette, but there are so many more to choose from. There’s nice big wooden tables and benches to sit on here. It can fill up quickly, but the turnover is pretty quick.

Warung Sika
Warung Sika is a great little warung that feels a little more secluded, even though it’s still in a great location in Canggu. Here they have a range of fritters that are all delicious, and the tempe (both sweet and spicy options), omelette, marinated chicken drumstick and sambal are all great too. So by now, you’re probably starting to realise we have our favourite dishes that we tend to order at most warungs ;) But honestly, I feel I enjoy warungs so much more now than the first time I ever ate at one because you get to know the dishes that you always love. The combination of the food and view here makes Wariung Sika a contender for our favourite warung in Canggu.

Warung Varuna
Warung Varuna is another one of the best warungs in Canggu. And yes, the tempe, corn fritter, vegetable fritter, beans, marinated chicken drumstick and sambal are all delicious ;) Warung Varuna is always pretty busy but there is plenty of seating.

Warung Tania
Not your typical warung in the sense that you won’t have a plethora of dishes to choose from, but just the one, Babi Guling, otherwise known as suckling pig. So if you’re looking to try a tasty Babi Guling dish, we thought this one was pretty good. The only thing I’d mention was the crackling is pretty hard so watch your teeth, but otherwise, it was a tasty dish!
