Alila Manggis is a beautiful luxury hotel on Bali’s East Coast, near Candidasa. It’s away from the crowded tourist areas of Bali, in a tranquil setting. Alila Manggis brings it’s own little piece of charm to Bali.
Alila Manggis: Our First Impressions
Staying at Alila Manggis was both peaceful and magical. As soon as you arrive you get an overwhelming sense of calm. It almost feels like you’re staying on a luxury estate rather then at a hotel, with under 60 rooms centred around a pool and sprawling green grounds leading to the seaside.
Location, Location, Location
Located on Bali’s East Coast and ‘quieter side’ near the small seaside village of Candidasa. The location is great if you want to relax and see a more traditional side to Bali.
The Room
The room mirrors the surrounds in that it’s kept fairly natural and minimalistic. We had a superior room which are on the ground floor, with glass doors pointing towards the pool, where you can walk straight out. There’s also a private terrace, that makes the room feel so much more spacious. A huge fan of the bathroom layout, everything just felt so refreshing.
Beyond The Room
One of the major things we noticed about our stay at Alila Manggis, was the emphasis on experiences you have throughout your stay.
When we first arrived, we did their Cooking Class in the Organic Garden. Wow. Words seriously could not describe how amazing this experience was. We have done lots of cooking classes in Bali, and a lot of them tend to follow the same structure. But for this one, we were driven to the hotels organic garden which is located about 10 minutes offsite, set high up in the rice fields. Here they give you a little tour of their organic garden and then you cook in the open air right there. Oh, and you get to eat lunch there too! The views are stunning and the only other people you will come across are children in the distance walking home from school. Bliss.
Alila Manggis also had free bikes with suggested tracks to take. Seeing as though it felt like we hadn’t stopped eating since we arrived in Bali, we thought this would be a welcome chance to work off some of that food and take in the surrounds! We rode the bikes in the late afternoon around the neighbouring village. There were some pretty steep bits, but the bike ride was fabulous and seeing the scenery and people in the traditional village was lovely.
We had dinner at their Sea Salt restaurant which was a delicious feast of Balinese cuisine. I loved the open air design of the restaurant.
