Our Stay At Hyatt Regency Bali In Sanur

Bali is a place that is constantly changing, so it’s nice when you find a place to stay that instantly feels like home. A place that constantly reminds you that you are in Bali, highlighting beautiful Balinese architecture and gardens. A place that adds to your Balinese experience with every interaction and step taken around the resort. Hyatt Regency Bali quickly became such a place. Perhaps it is because prior to a recent 5-year renovation, Hyatt Regency was known as Bali Hyatt, Bali’s first-ever 5-star hotel which opened in 1973. Maybe it’s the history you feel as you walk through the hotel which now has beautifully renovated spaces whilst still incorporating much from the original hotel, from statues to furnishings to even staff that have been here for decades. Maybe it’s how friendly and kind the staff are. Whatever it is, staying at Hyatt Regency Bali is so much more than just a beautiful luxury resort experience. It’s like you’re experiencing your own little piece of Balinese history, even if just for a few nights.

First Impressions

Driving through Sanur, you will already sense the laid-back nature of this area and see locals going about their day. Then as you drive up to the open-air lobby through the gardens and statues, you instantly feel relaxed. The combination of the ocean breeze, Balinese music, and a cold towel make for a perfect start to your stay. The check-in process was simple and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

Location, Location, Location

Hyatt Regency Bali is located in Sanur, which is about 25 minutes from Bali Airport, 40 minutes from Seminyak and 1 hour from Ubud and Canggu. As you can probably tell, Sanur is quite central and can easily be included as a destination in your Bali Itinerary. Sanur is also one of the destinations where you can get a fast boat to Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida, so if you are visiting either of these places, Sanur would make for a perfect stay before or after.

Hyatt Regency Bali is a beachfront property, so you can enjoy swimming at the beach and relaxing on their beach lounge chairs. There is also great access to Sanur’s beachfront walkway. This is a great spot to go for a walk or to hire some bicycles to explore more of Sanur. It’s also a great place to wake up early and enjoy the beautiful Sanur sunrise.

Nearby the hotel you will find many restaurants and boutique shops. Sanur is also a nice size in that you can walk to most places, ride a bicycle or use a reasonably priced taxi (Bluebird are what we usually choose) to get to anywhere you need to go.

The Room

We stayed in a Family Suite which also comes with Regency Club access and is located on the 4th floor.

As we walked in, we immediately fell in love with the Balinese design and furnishings, after all, you can’t get that anywhere else in the world but here. From our balcony, we could see a beautiful garden with lush trees and plants with glimpses of the beach through the trees. It was extremely calming and felt private and tropical. You could feel the ocean breeze and it was only a short walk to the water.

Sanur Sunrise View From Our Room

Our room felt quite large, with two main spaces. One side of our room was a lounge area, with a large and very comfortable place to sit or lay, coffee table, large tv, table and fridge. Not to mention, a balcony with table and chairs. This part of the room also came with a separate powder room that had it’s own shower and toilet.

Family Suite Living Room

The other part of our room was the bedroom with a very comfortable king-sized bed that gave us some amazing nights of sleep. There is also another balcony off the bedroom with two lounging seats. There was a generously sized bathroom with a large shower head or hand-held shower option, his and her vanity area, bath and toilet. I absolutely fell in love with the fittings and tapware, which had a luxurious vintage feel to them. We also love that the water comes in glass bottles and the amenities in paper packaging.

Everything in the room felt thoughtful and intentional, it all just worked to make everything about your stay seamless. The labelling on the lights, the pillows were just right and the bed just the perfect level of cosiness. The walk-in wardrobe was a nice touch with a raised space for luggage.

The rooms are located in the original hotel buildings, so ceiling heights might seem a little low, but we thought they were fine. We were also lucky to stay in the family suite which felt quite large and spacious, however, some other room types may feel small due to the original building spaces, although we did not get a chance to see these in person.

We found the original building structure to be more charming the longer we stayed, especially with the gardens in the courtyards.

Our room came with a mini-bar however I do believe most rooms have an empty fridge so you can stock it up yourself from the onsite store, which may ultimately give you more choice and more reasonable prices.

Beyond The Room

Walking around the expansive grounds of Hyatt Regency Bali is a beautiful experience in itself. With tranquil Balinese gardens and lotus ponds with ducks, around every corner is another calming surprise waiting for you.

The beach is another relaxing place to spend your time, go for a swim or just lounge on the beach chairs. Hyatt Regency Bali has three main pool areas, a pool by the beach, another beautiful pool behind this, complete with a Goa Gajah replica statue to swim through and gorgeous bougainvillaea trees overhanging the pool. There is also a kids pool nearby too. We loved our chats with Charlie, a member of the food and beverage staff by the pool who also worked here when it was Bali Hyatt. Charlie feels like part of the Hyatt family and the staff here are one of the many reasons why staying at Hyatt Regency Bali feels like home so quickly.

Shankha Spa

If you’re looking to take the relaxation up a level, make sure to venture to Shankha Spa, the Hyatt Regency Bali spa. Not only is this area a sanctuary in itself, with lotus ponds and open-air wooden walkways leading you from one blissful area to the next, but there is so much to do and discover here. Start the day with a work-out at the gym and a drink from their kombucha bar, swim in the pool, or experience the sauna or steam rooms and hot and cold plunge pools.

But perhaps the most special part of Shankha spa is the spa treatments in the luxurious spa villas. The villas make you feel like you are a part of nature, with large glass walls surrounded by greenery. We loved our one-hour Balinese massage and had the best sleep following it. Our therapists were amazing, from start to finish everything was so relaxing. Whether you are staying at Hyatt Regency Bali or not, we highly recommend adding this to your list of things to do in Sanur.

The Food At Hyatt Regency Bali

There are two restaurants at Hyatt Regency Bali, Omang Omang and Pizzaria, which are, in our opinion, two of the best restaurants in Sanur. Not only was the food at each restaurant delicious, but it was also reasonably priced for a 5-star resort. They also have a piano lounge and for those with club access, Regency Club.

Omang Omang

Omang Omang is a beautiful open-air restaurant surrounded by lotus ponds and gardens. Here you can enjoy both Indonesian and Western cuisine, close to the main pool area. They also have some great smaller bites to snack on whilst you enjoy your time at the pool. We loved the oxtail fried rice and opor ayam (Indonesian chicken coconut curry), along with an absolutely delicious quinoa salad that I’m pretty sure would be a crowd-pleaser. The signature iced tea is also really refreshing.

Pizzaria

A fantastic option for pizza and Italian food is Hyatt Regency Bali’s Italian beachfront restaurant Pizzaria. The location makes you want to stay and relax all day long. Their wood-fired sourdough pizzas are light and full of flavour at the same time. We also loved all the Italian food we tried, including polpette, Caprese salad and arancini.

Regency Club

The Regency Club is another beautiful open-air space at Hyatt Regency Bali available to those with club access. Here you can enjoy a peaceful breakfast by the lotus ponds, with a range of food available from eggs cooked to order, Indonesian dishes, fruit and cold-cuts, cereals, fresh juices and pastries. You can also enjoy snacks and wine or cocktails between 5 and 7 pm, and access to other food and drinks throughout the day.
