Lombok Active Itinerary: Underwater Worlds To Mountain Summits

Use our Lombok Active Itinerary to help plan your holiday. Lombok is a great choice for an active holiday, from trekking Mount Rinjani to diving amongst pristine, untouched coral reefs.

Lombok really is a great destination to be “active”. From trekking, diving, swimming, surfing, snorkelling, walking and riding a bike, Lombok has something for everyone.

Here we will look at a general Lombok Active Itinerary.

Lombok Active Itinerary

Day 1

Start your Lombok holiday in Senggigi. Not only is it the main tourist hub of Lombok (although it is not very ‘touristy’), but it’s an easy location for your tour guide to pick you up from for your upcoming trek!

Sleep: Senggigi

Senggigi

Senggigi is a coastal town on the west coast of Lombok. This is probably the main tourist hub of Lombok, although it is still not ver developed or over run by tourists. Here you can find nice beaches, some local shops and local restaurants.

Day 2

Senggigi Lombok

Spend the day in Senggigi to prepare and for the trek. Check out the local shops and restaurants. Swim or snorkel at the beach.

Sleep: Senggigi

Day 3

Your Mount Rinjani trek starts today! Now you get to choose how active you want to be! The treks range from 2 days/1 night, to 5 day/4 nights. Most treks to the crater rim are 2 days/1 night and you can trek to the summit in 3 days/2 nights. Check with tour operators for further details on programs offered. If you are not experienced, we would recommend the 2 day 1 night crater rim trek.

Sleep: Somewhere on Mount Rinjani

Mount Rinjani

Mount Rinjani is a volcano in Lombok, popular for trekking. Some people trek to the crater rim, whilst the more experienced trek to the summit.

Day 4

Trekking.

If your trek finishes today you should arrange transport back to your hotel in Senggigi (although most tour operators have this included in the tour).

Sleep: Mount Rinjani if still trekking, or Senggigi if finished

Day 5 (or when you finish your trek)

Depending what tour you choose, you may be finished your trek or still treking.
Once you have completed your trek, if you still want to be active you can combine your stay with bike riding around Lombok, diving, surfing or other water sports.
If you now want to relax, pick either of the gili island groups and rest those legs on the beach. You deserve it. If you still have energy, try paddle boarding, snorkelling or kayaking around the island.

Sleep: Gili Islands

The Gili Islands

The Gili Islands are a group of 3 small islands located off the north west coast of Lombok; Gili Trawanagan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. Gili Trawangan is the most popular and most developed of the three. They can be reached by speedboat in about 15 minutes. The Gili Islands are great for beautiful beaches, swimming, snorkelling, diving, kayaking and paddle boarding.

Southwest Gili's

Located off the south west coast of Lombok, these are the Gili Islands most tourist's don't know about, and are often referred to as the secret Islands. Less developed, with pristine beaches, clear waters and vibrant marine life. Great for snorkelling, diving and relaxing. Keep in mind they are may not have extensive facilities, so it is best to bring what you need, including cash.

Day 6

Gili Trawangan bike rental

Another day in Gili. Explore the island (you can walk around it or hire bicycles), eat, relax, swim, enjoy the beautiful weather.

Sleep: Gili Islands

Day 7

Take your pick! Explore more of lombok, get a speedboat to Bali and continue your holiday there, or return home :(

Sleep: BaliLombok or Home

  1. Hi there Mandy & Chris.
Thanks for the brilliant tips it’s worth to know and very useful indeed. Anyway I’ll be traveling to Bali Denpasar and also Gili Trawangan soon. But I’m still preparing my own itinerary. I somehow lost on preparing for it cause it’s my solo trip for 5 days & 4 nights. I’m planning to be at Bali for 2 nights and so as Gili Trawangan. But thing is my return flight at Denpasar at 1600hrs. Is it possible to get transfer from Gili Trawangan for morning boat? Any idea?

    Seeking help.

    1. Hi Jayden, you should be able to organise a morning boat from Gili T back to Bali, however, if your boat is delayed due to weather then there is a chance you may miss your flight. Just keep in mind that it could be fine but it also could not be fine. If you haven’t booked yet, maybe you could do first night Bali, 2 middle nights Gili T, then last night Bali, to be sure? Whatever you decide I hope you enjoy your trip :)

  2. Hey Mandy & Chris !

Your itinerary is pretty similar to what we had planned so it helped me confirm my travel plans ! I feel a lot better after reading up on it, thanks !

I had a quick question ! Which trek company would you recommend for trekking up Mt Rinjani? We are a group of 3 and were looking to do the 2 day 1 night trek since we’re not very fit people (lol)

    Thanks !

    1. Hi Aashka Shah
Happy to hear you like the itinerary ;). We have not done a Rinjani trek so do not want to recommend one over another. There does look to be some good choice available though. Just read some recent reviews of whoever you pick. Hope you enjoy, we would love to hear how the trek goes :).
